We spent last week at the beach in Isle of Palms, SC with Dan's family. I heard Chloe tell her older cousins, aunts and uncles, "I'm not a baby anymore". While, I didn't run off sobbing as she told everyone this undeniable fact, tears were threatening to come out of my eyes. I can't believe she's almost 4 years-old!
This past year Chloe has grown alot. She asks many questions. She asked me about the store "Buy Buy Baby" To which I replied, "That's where people buy babies." and luckily Daddy was around to clarify. She remembers song lyrics. Last week, when she thought no one was listening, she belted out "God Bless America" and at bath time, she sings "Part of Your World" from "The Little Mermaid". I smile when she starts a sentence with "Yesterday..." and whatever she mentions actually happened weeks ago.
Last week at the beach, someone asked, "Will she be in kindergarten next year?". I hadn't thought about it too much thinking it would be at least 2-3 more years of pre-school. I didn't even know the age requirements. While I had internet access at the beach and could have easily checked the age requirements for kindergarten, I wanted to hold on to this blissful ignorance a little longer. Yesterday, I finally checked and since she'll be 5 years-old before September 30th, 2011, she'll start kindergarten next fall. She's going to be in the graduating class of 2024! Before I know it, she'll be off to college spending summers in Spain and France, become a successful career woman, married and I'll be...grandma! Yep, I'm way ahead of myself, but kindergarten is her big first step and she's probably more ready for it than I am. Thank goodness I have a year to prepare! I'm starting to understand why my Mom still calls me her baby.
